statement of intent

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief?

Artist:

My fictional artist for this task is named "azaleah" (reference to the flower - azalea) who is classified as a indie rock musician. They will be a young person who used to have a small niche audience but has become newly popularised and has just been signed to Universal Music Group. They recently have gone through a stylist change in their music and appearance; the artist will address this to their audience through their newest music video and the bio in their website. Their aesthetic is lighter/brighter colours and nostalgic.

Music Video:

For the music video, I intend to create an emotionally engaging production for a love song, which will be both performative and plot based. The theme of the video is rejection of love and will be split into two sections: the artist lip-syncing to the lyrics and the story line. The narrative is about the character collecting flowers to give to someone at their door, although to complement the song this will be in reverse. To make my video stand out, I want it to be memorable for the audience it will have a plot twist of the artist to be the one rejecting the character. As the character and the artist are played by the same person, they will represent different social groups by having contrasting appearances. The mise-en-scene will show this as artist's costume will be all dark clothing as well as natural hair and make-up, whereas the character will be clothed in many colours, have bright dyed hair and heavier make-up. This could also represent their personalities as the artist is reserved and acting "as they're supposed to", and the other has freedom to express themselves however they fell. Then by using hard cuts to suit the story-line, the whole video

Though the main premise for my music video is based on rejection, I aim it to also have many interpretations. The prop flowers can be symbolic of love and loss, this idea is brought into my music video as the artist feels lost about love (or self-love). However, this can be interpreted several different ways.

Website:

To create a believable, realistic artist identity I intend to use create a simple layout on the page design, an easy to follow layout, with an obvious aesthetic to make the artist distinguishable. Having an identifiable aesthetic, it enhances the audiences understanding and how they perceive the artist. I believe that the main purpose of the website is for the audience to find out more about them and enforce the branding of the artist. By having links to their social medias and more musical content it further emphasises this.

I also want to address the artist's career stage (recently gained fame and newly apart of Universal Music) by having a pull quote from the artist and/or a segment from an interview.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production?

I intent to create branding for "azaleah" and one way to ensure this is by establishing the codes and conventions of artists' aesthetic using the bright and soft colours: blues, purples, pinks and yellows, throughout my website and music video. Social medias (such as: instagram, twitter, etc.) will be placed on the website to link to the artist's socials, which not only creates more connections between the artist and audience but also shows the target demographic.
