Image
Mitski Mitski Miyawaki is a Japanese-American singer-songwriter, who has released three albums and music consists of the genres of indie rock, punk rock, folk rock, folk punk and art pop. The photography by Bao Ngo captures the artist's aesthetic by using bold colours as the main focus of the shot, which further makes the shots very professional looking. As well as this the mise-en-scene is well thought out as the costume matches the scenery. In all of these photos the artist as a neutral facial expression which reflects their her songs in the sense of their serious topics.  Mother Mother Mother Mother is a Canadian indie rock band based in Quadra Island, British Columbia. Breezeblocks - Alt-J Information  about the Artist Alt-J  are an English indie rock band formed in 2007 in Leeds. The band's actual name is the triangle shaped symbol  Δ  (the capital Greek delta letter),  and they often make references to triangles in their music. In 2019, their song "Breezeblocks" was featured on the Netflix series Daybreak . Alt-J has been noted for their post-modern lyrics in their lyrics in their songs that highlight historical and pop-culture subjects. By using colourful lighting, their aesthetic is bright  which completely contrasts their song lyrics and music videos, that usually have a darker meaning behind them. This may have been done a purpose to play with the usual codes and conventions of the artist "match" the genre of their music. As shown on  Alt-J's website   How the music video has the same vibes as the artist and website In formation  about the Song "Breezeblocks" is a song which was released in 2012 as th...

lip sync practise

Image
Dark Red - Steve Lacy By using a projector, I was able to create a moving background for my lip syncing video. As I am wanting to use this technique for my final 3 minute music video production, I decided to practice before I film it. I have learnt that darker(/black) backgrounds don't work as well as brighter ones so I'm going to avoid that and that I need remember to crop out anything which shouldn't be in the background (e.g. the corner of the table, cables). As for the editing, it was more difficult than expect to line the audio up with the lip-syncing so I need to take into account the amount of time I need to dedicate to this if I ever decide to use this technique in other projects.

one minute music video (self-evaluation)

Image
Bittersweet Sweet Symphony - The Verve When creating my production I had a clear idea of what I wanted to do, after some detailed planning I knew exactly how I wanted the one minute music video to turn out.  The purpose of the music video was to create a lyric video where the words of the song is shown in the background and props, this keeps the audience captivated with how the lyrics would be revealed next. I took inspiration from the film "Baby Driver", as well as the "Adult Swim" trend on TikTok from a few months ago. I think my overall idea of what I wanted to do was portrayed well through my final product. However, after filming I found that I hadn't recorded enough extra shots to fill when their aren't any lyrics, so I ended up cutting the clips I had on the beat to make it fill the gap and reflecting back I would film more extra shots to avoid this error. Another way of improving my production would be to include an arc shot and tracking shot, needing...

initial research into music videos

Image
Losing My Religion - R.E.M The use of low-key lighting and the colour scheme of browns and whites instantly sets the tone for the music video. However, this heavily contrasts when it cuts to anything else which isn't the main singer, using brighter colours, using high-key lighting and having extravagant costumes. This fits the nature of the song as the video gets darker (visually) to match the lyrics. The video is quite representative of different cultures and religions so it can be interpreted differently by separate groups of people, as well as being quite symbolic.  Here It Goes Again - Ok Go The whole music video was recorded continuous which shows the unbroken movement of the choreography and without any editing,  it makes the audience focus on what is happening. What makes this music video stand out is the use mise-en-scene as the props of treadmills is uncommon in music videos and as it goes against the codes and convention of music videos, it is very memorable. This am...
